GB Sprint Stars Prepare for Manchester Showdown
Richard Kilty and Chijindu Ujah are ready to go head to head in next mont’s GreatCity Games Manchester. The date of the event is pretty unusual, as it will be hosted on a Friday evening, between 5 PM and 7:30 PM, on May 20.
Kilty, who started his preparations for Rio, wished to take a tilt and participate in Manchester Showdown. The last event attended by the Teeside Tornado was Glasgow’s World Indoor Grand Prix where he finished in the second place. Moreover, he decided to focus his entire attention on the outdoor season, even if that meant not defending his world indoor title this March in Portland.
The sprinter had positive results last year in Deansgate and believes that this year it will clear his path to Rio. The 26-year-old player declared for The Voice: “I always enjoy these events, having the crowd right on top of you, and it’s a good opportunity for people to come down and see British athletes before the Olympics. Hopefully, I can help put a show on for them.”
The second British star, Ujah, finished on the fourth place in Deansgate last year but hopes to be luckier this time. Just like his teammate, he participates at this event having Rio in mind.
The GreatCity Games Manchester brings together top athletes in the heart of the city for an urban competition.
