The European Athletics Indoor Championships are a biennial Indoor competition, organized by the European Athletics, which identifies a European champion for each major discipline of athletics. The European Athletics “indoor” Championships competed since 1970.
Succeeding the European Indoor Games, played from 1966 to 1969, the first European Indoor Championships were held in 1970 in Vienna, Austria. Set initially every year until 1989, they held biennially since 1990. Since 2005 (and after three years of interruption), the championships are held in odd years to synchronize with other European and world competitions of athletics. The 2009 edition was held from March 13 to 15 in Turin, Italy.
